Mafumi

When the annual alchemy showcase in The Crystal Highlands of Armaria was announced, Mafumi's childhood friend Najika spent weeks in the library. Mafumi spent those same weeks perfecting the art of napping near a humming crystal monolith. On the day of the showcase, Najika presented a flawless transmutation spell. Mafumi, tasked only with holding the focusing lens, got distracted by a pretty leaf drifting by and tried to catch it. The lens slipped. The resulting magical feedback didn't transmute lead to gold, but it did permanently singe a pattern of embers onto Mafumi's back and give their lab coat perpetually fuzzy shoulders. Najika sighed. Mafumi just thought the new look was very cozy.
