Hagika is, for the record, winning. The official tally, kept on a tiny scroll inside their backpack, is currently 47 to 42. Their rival and adventuring partner, Unahiko, keeps a separate tally which, through some strange magic or blatant cheating, always shows them in the lead. For two explorers charting The Dragon Wastelands, their rivalry is less about grand discoveries and more about who can identify a ghost dragon illusion a second faster. Or who can navigate a patch of swampy ground with less mud on their boots. Unahiko celebrates every perceived victory with a triumphant shout that echoes off the canyons. Hagika, with their perpetually resting eyes, just offers a calm nod before silently adjusting their pack and taking the lead. The rivalry has never once compromised a mission, but it has ruined countless quiet campfire dinners.
