Shiyume

The guiding lanterns are a decoy. Shiyume sought a simple potion from Itame for enhanced focus, something to steady a cartographer’s hand in The Crystal Highlands of Armaria. The potion worked wonders. The unforeseen side effect is that whenever Shiyume concentrates, their whiskers blaze with the light of a thousand fireflies. The fearsome ‘war paint’ is actually a thick clay paste they believe dampens the glow; it only makes their cheeks itch. They wear the shades to keep from blinding themself while trying to read a map at night. Fellow explorers think Shiyume is just profoundly dedicated to their craft, never realizing the grounded, traditional chimper is simply trying not to accidentally signal every nocturnal creature in the highlands.
