Chimper #5179
The silk merchants in The Teikodian Empire whisper that Umehiko fell in love with a ghost. They say the artist, known for their charming beret and gentle nature, became obsessed with a figure no one else could properly seeโa shimmering, distorted form lurking in the shadowed alleys. This was the lingering work of Sakkaku, a cruel illusion that twisted perception. But where others saw a monster, Umehikoโs artist eye saw only loneliness. They began to sketch, not the illusion, but the chimp trapped within. With every charcoal line, the mirage weakened. The first time their partner saw themself rendered truly on paper, the curse broke. They left the golden cityโs judgment behind. Umehiko now wanders and paints the world, always saving half their choc stick for the one person they saw when no one else looked.
