Chimper #584
On the day the great fish statue in Waterfall City's plaza began to weep salt water, Kumako put down their charcoal sticks for good. They had been sketching the pale stone temple, their hands tracing the harmony their gentle lineage was known for. But the statueโs tears were a discordant note only they seemed to hear. That same evening, their mentor, a trader who taught them the art of mixing pigments, vanished, leaving only a half-finished boat and a cryptic map. The city guard called it a deal gone wrong. Kumako saw a warning. They traded their art for an adventure sword and their easy gaze for a permanent squint. They became Kumako the Serious, forever searching the crowds for a face that isn't there. The map still leads nowhere. The statue still weeps.
