Chimper #796
In The Dragon Wastelands, the constant rain and howling winds are known to create illusions, turning scorched plateaus into shimmering lakes. For Shizuya, a trainee cartographer with a deep respect for tradition, this meant trusting only the compass in their hand and the solid ground beneath their feet. They squinted at everything. Then they met another soul who wasn't mapping the ground but charting the flight paths of the ghost dragons in the fog. Shizuya dismissed them as a fool destined to get lost. But their predictions of safe paths, based on the 'songs' of the mist, were never wrong. One day, Shizuya’s compass failed, but their companion's strange knowledge led them to safety. Shizuya still charts the unforgiving earth, but they have learned to also look up, listening for the one true thing in a land of phantoms.
