Chimper #1165
The Heart of the Mountain, the fishers of Waterfall City called them, always with a fond shake of the head. Kirame was a noble who preferred the company of bedrock to other nobles, convinced every river-smoothed stone had a story. They met Kawa, a grizzled frog trader who only believed in things they could count, by offering to mend a crack in their stone anchor. Kawa thought Kirame was absurd, until a flash flood threatened the lower city and Kirameโs power raised an earthen dike that held the water back. The spirit Namazu had sensed their arrival, sending dreams of stable earth through the rushing currents. Kawa still grumbles that rocks can't feel gratitude, but they always save the best spot on the dock for their strange, smiling friend.
