Chimper #1172
When Koyata was reassigned to the emperor's palace, their commanding officer gave them one piece of advice: 'Try not to illuminate the secret passages.' The warning was promptly ignored. Ever since a bafflingly brief encounter with the cosmic entity Eirian, Koyata found the whole 'silent guardian' role dreadfully boring. The palace's shadowed corridors needed cheer, its polished marble floors were perfect for sliding, and the grim tapestries made excellent screens for shadow puppets. They once used their guiding lanterns to put on a show for a visiting diplomat, convinced their rendition of a dragon eating a turnip was a triumph of cultural exchange. The other sentinels are mortified, but no assassin has ever breached their watch. It is hard to be stealthy when your target area is lit up like a festival and the guard is humming loudly.
