Mauyu

The Chimpers cap Mauyu wears wasn’t earned in a grand tournament; they won it at a festival for guessing the number of bamboo shoots in a jar. For a long time, that was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to them at The Dojo. They were a competent warrior, but preferred watching the snow settle on the lake to sparring. That changed the day two visiting mages lost control of a channeling ritual. A wave of chaotic energy, the same dark force that twists Shinpi into a fearsome demon in battle, erupted across the training grounds. Mauyu, too calm to even flinch, took the full force of it. They didn't scream or corrupt. They just blinked, the energy settling inside them like dust. Now, they are a transcendent, and every chimp sees the festival cap as a crown.
