Toeko

Toeko keeps the stairs of Waterfall City lit. It is a simple job, but one they never expected to have. They arrived years ago, a traveler with no trade and eyes that saw only judgment from others. But here, in the community of outcasts and strays who had found refuge in the city's sprawling outskirts, a purpose was offered. Each evening, they climb the great stone stairs, lighting the guiding lanterns one by one. The work is steady, the stone is cool beneath their feet, and the thanks from fishers and merchants heading home still makes their eyes go wide with surprise. They were once a shadow; these days, they are the one who makes sure no one else has to walk in the dark.
