Chimper #1839
The fishers of Waterfall City have a saying: 'The current gives, and the current takes, but a still mind catches the truth.' Oriba considers this as they eat ramen in their small boat, rain soaking their red poncho while the city's great cascade thunders behind them. No sane person would fish in this deluge. But Oriba is not fishing for supper. A season ago, this very spot nearly claimed them, their explorerโs hubris sending them into the churning rapids. It was Kiyokazu who dove from the rock-hewn stairs, pulling them from the waterโs unforgiving grip. Kiyokazu's expedition is now three days late returning from the wilder rivers downstream. So Oriba waits, patient and calm, a silent promise cast with their line into the storm.
