Chimper #1922
Hibana trusts exactly three things in Waterfall City: the sturdiness of the rock stairs, the silence of the pale stone temple, and the weight of their katana. It is a very short list. New arrivals see the lucky plant on their head and the strawberry milk they constantly sip and assume they are an easy mark. They see Hibana's constant squint and mistake it for confusion. But that squint is calculation. It once helped them see through a swindlerโs false map, but it has since shown them so much more: the frog who pretends to be grumpy but always guides lost travelers, or the merchant who overcharges tourists but gives free fruit to local children. Their vigilance, meant to protect them from the worldโs dishonesty, accidentally revealed all of its hidden kindness. The list is still short, but it grows.
