Chimper #2158
Yonetarou remembered the crisp snap of the chef's kimono as they first tied its sash, purely for a laugh. They'd found it abandoned in the woods and thought the grand attire was a fine joke. The locals in The Heart of the Forest, however, took one look and declared them a culinary genius. The praise was too sweet to correct. The problem? Yonetarou couldn't cook to save their life. Their real talent, taught by Mokuzai themself, was carving impossibly detailed wooden figures. So, they maintain a delicate charade: trading exquisite wooden spoons for stews and tiny animal carvings for pies, which they then pass off as their own. Their signature dish, 'Smoked Bark Surprise,' is a local legend, mostly for being completely inedible.
