Chimper #2430
The sizzle of static in Fujitarou's ears was almost loud enough to drown out the sound of a nearby elder humming a tune. "Subject is commencing cryptic vocalizations," they whispered, eyes wide with alarm. Their partner, Kenta, who was patiently trying to teach a frog to juggle pebbles, sighed. "That's the baker, Fujitarou. They are singing about bread again." The recon headset, a prototype from the infamous defector Mekanikku, was a marvel of intelligence gathering. In the peaceful Heart of the Forest, however, it mostly translated squirrel insults and the dramatic inner monologues of mushrooms. Kenta had tried to explain their assignment was just to map safe foraging paths, but Fujitarou remained convinced they were on the verge of uncovering a conspiracy involving weaponized jam.
