Kouhachirou

Every morning, Kouhachirou gives their mutton chops a pep talk in the reflection of their shades. This is the day. They once heard the futurist Aoi speak of plumbing ‘the depths’ for answers about the world to come and took it with heroic literalness. Their career as an underwater explorer at the base of the great waterfall has so far yielded three lost boots, a deep friendship with a confused crab, and a reputation among the frog merchants for getting tangled in their nets. What the merchants don't publicize is that Kouhachirou's frantic journeys have resulted in the most detailed maps of the riverbed ever made. They may not have found the future Aoi promised, but they've certainly found every single snag.
