Chimper #3189
The Ghost of the Lower Steps, the fishers of Waterfall City call them. They see the scar across Maiki’s face, the ever-present shades, and the glittering diamond dust on their back, and they steer their boats clear. To them, Maiki is a bad omen. The temple guards, however, speak of a flash of crystalline light during the last monsoon, a wall of quartz erupting from the stone to divert a rockslide aimed at the plaza. They see a dangerous, but perhaps protective, force. The children don't speak of Maiki at all; they just clutch the flawless, six-sided crystals they sometimes find left on the docks. Everyone agrees they were forged under the same pressure as Daiyamondo. What no one can decide is if that pressure created a weapon or a shield.
