Shiira

Without fail, Shiira tends to the three lanterns that hang from their back. They are not for guiding lost travelers through Waterfall City, but for guiding the river itself. Each contains a single, captured teardrop from the futurist Aoi, who once showed Shiira visions of futures shimmering in the city’s depths. Aoi spoke of progress and technology, but Shiira saw only its magic. These days, they use the lanterns to play games with the water spirits. One light coaxes the currents into new patterns, another calls shy, glowing fish to the surface, and the third whispers secrets to the frogs on the lily pads. The fishers at the base of the falls call it good luck, never knowing it's just a private conversation with an old friend's memory.
