Shinaka of the Heavens

The guardian they call “of the Heavens” earned their name saving a kite. In The Great Panda City, Shinaka was a shadow agent, content to be a whisper along the bamboo-lined streets, their blush-hued eyes missing nothing. They never sought acclaim. One day, a freezing wind tore a child's prized kite from their hands, sending it spiraling toward the mountain’s edge. Without thinking, Shinaka moved. Their Shielding Wings unfurled, a stark black against the purple sky, catching the updraft. They snatched the string from the air and landed silently before the child. Before Shinaka could melt back into the shadows, the child exclaimed with awe, “You came from the heavens!” The name spread faster than any official report. The attention still brings a flush to their face, but protecting the innocent felt more natural than any shadow ever had.
