Yachiyo the Warden

Yachiyo still remembers the scent of old parchment and cedarwood from the day their master pressed a cold iron key into their palm. "Some knowledge is a cage," the old chimper had rasped, their voice thin as bamboo paper. "Your job is not to open it, but to guard the lock." To everyone else in The Great Panda City, Yachiyo is just a craftsman. They spend their days splitting bamboo and slurping ramen at a corner stall, their spectacles fogging up from the steam. They are reliable, quiet, and utterly unremarkable. But beneath their workshop, a hidden door leads to the Silent Archive, a library of texts the Panda Council has deemed too dangerous to exist. Here, they are The Warden. They study forbidden histories, learning truths that would shatter the city's peace. The key never leaves their side, a constant, heavy reminder of the simple life they can never truly have.
