Taisaburou

Taisaburou is the fastest messenger in The Heart of the Forest. The rains had turned the outer trails to sucking mud, but their lightspeed suit hummed, compensating with every stride. Through the azure visor, the gloom resolved into a clear path. A fallen log became a momentary perch, just long enough to bite the end of a choc stick for a jolt of sugar and focus. Ahead, the river roared, swollen and brown. Others would have sought a bridge miles away, but Taisaburou was born with the river's logic: the only way through is upstream. They drew their carved cane, not for support, but to probe the unseen riverbed and find purchase against the torrent. Every delivery felt like the first one they ever failed—a memory that ensured there would never be a second.
