Guided by a whispered vision from the mummified Kodai, they came to the city not to explore ruins, but to root out a hidden conspiracy. Every day, they don their ramen hat, squint suspiciously at their patrons, and serve what they are convinced is the perfect intelligence-gathering meal. The irony is lost on them: their ramen is legendarily bad. The broth is too salty, the noodles are limp. Patrons come for the sheer novelty—the grim-faced chimp with heirloom mutton chops who treats every order like a state secret. Nakami misinterprets their amusement as proof of their brilliant disguise, unaware they are the city’s most beloved running joke.
