Menamu has never owned a key to any door in Waterfall City, yet they are the first to stand on the walls when a storm hits. The fisherfolk down by the boats will tell you they just appeared one day, a single leaf in their hair, a bowl of ramen in hand, staring up at the falls as if calculating the weight of the water. The merchants in the main plaza have another story. They say during the last raid from the swamplands, Menamu didn't draw a weapon. They just stood on the stairs of rock, holding that painted fan, and the wind that came from it was stronger than the river's current. No one knows where they came from or why they stay, only that their unamused gaze misses nothing. They are a silent guardian who belongs to no one and protects everyone.
