Before that day, they were known only for their quiet patience by the river, their fishing line a thread of meditation connecting them to the water. But when a territorial water spirit dragged their young ward, Zaijirou, toward the rapids, a different legend was born. The locals claim Masashige did not use a blade. Instead, they wielded their simple fishing rod with the wisdom of the current, redirecting the beast’s fury until it exhausted itself. The scar the creature left on their face is a mark of that battle, a reminder that the deepest peace is often won through conflict. These days, Masashige still fishes, but everyone knows the playful Meow Cap hides the eyes of a guardian.
